It’s Been Awhile…

27 Jan

The Owens clan has had “the bug” over the last couple of weeks.  The same one that most of America has right now.  All five of us had it in varying degrees.  Even sweet little Amelia had her share of it.  Poor little angel.  So when you stay home all the time, you start to get creative.

One evening after Will got home, the boys asked him to tie their capes on.  Not an unusual request, but this time was a little different.  They wore their capes for a solid 24 hours.  Looking back on it, I probably shouldn’t have let them sleep with a blanket tied around their neck, but they did just fine.  The next morning they ate breakfast with their capes, played with their capes and then we cooked with their capes.  But they weren’t really Superman (or any other superhero).  William was a “big, scary alien” and Zachary was defiantly “Darf Vader.”  Zach loves putting things on his head, and then he looks at you with a very scowling, serious face.  He says quietly, “I’m Dark Vader.”  It’s pretty funny.  That kid.

Making pudding with their capes

Licking the batter off the beaters…the best part of cooking!!  Notice the remnants on the cape.

William loves to clean (just like Grandad!), but only when he feels like it.

We made Oreo pudding, chocolate pudding and then chocolate chocolate-chip cookies.  They are the most amazing cookies.  And the greatest thing is how easy it is.  Here’s the recipe:

Lorien’s Amazingly Easy Chocolate Cookies

1 box chocolate cake mix (or really any cake mix)

2 eggs

1 stick of butter, softened

1 bag chocolate chips (or whatever you like)

Mix butter and eggs.  Add cake mix and mix until blended.  Stir in chips.  Bake at 350 degrees for 9-11 minutes.  DO NOT OVERBAKE!  Enjoy!!
