Weekend in the Mountains

14 Apr

Last week was my 29th birthday and my gift from Will was a weekend in the mountains.  If you’ve ever talked to me in person, you KNOW how much I love Asheville and the Western NC mountains.  In fact, I think I was cheated in my first 25 years that I never really spent time in mountains.  Forget the beach, that’s where my “peace” is.  Now I know peace is only found in Jesus Christ, but you take Jesus plus the mountains, and THAT, my friends, is heaven on earth.  🙂

So Will booked this amazing cabin and we were able to stay 3 nights.  It was absolutely wonderful.  When you walk in the cabin, the first thing you see on the pine trim between the loft and the lower living room is “He restoreth my soul.”  How awesome is that???  So that was the theme for the weekend.  Maybe it’s getting easier now that the kids are getting older.  I don’t know.  I do know that we were in the cabin for a good part of the weekend, and we actually didn’t get sick of each other!  I’ll post more of the trip tomorrow, but for now, here are some shots from yesterday.

After we packed up and left the cabin, we drove over to Pisgah National Forest for a little hike.  We got out and walked around Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls.  Then we drove back to the Davidson River camping area and did a little hike on the Art Loeb Trail.  Amelia and Zachary got free rides in the backpacks.  It was nearing lunchtime, so we only did about a mile.  The trail was so nice though, mostly because it followed along the river.  I love hiking, but only when there’s water involved.  At the halfway mark, I pulled out 4 chocolate moonpies and made everyone happy.  Ahhhhhh, a good moonpie.  Does it get any better than that?  After our hike, we stopped at Hawg Wild, had some great BBQ and then hit the road.

We are still mostly exhausted, but it was totally worth it.  Good family time is hard to come by sometimes, and we got 4 full days of it.

Just a cool photo I took.  I think I want to put it above our bed blown up really big.  What do you think?

This tree had woodpecker holes every inch of the entire tree as far up as we could see.  How amazing is that??
